There is an announcement on the screen about a new launcher and a combining of Mojang and Microsoft accounts. (I foolishly bought from both and used the same account name on purchase from both - something that I have never sorted out to make clearer to myself. I have purchased the game from both Mojang and Microsoft, but am only talking about the Mojang Java edition here. It does not show the displayName from launcher_profiles.json in the Minecraft Launcher as it used to. What happens now is that it only shows the player name which I used to download the software. (There is also a line to change in the "server" properties file to disable name check, but that is unchanged.) Boom, we are both into the same server, with different character names. It has not worked when I tried today.Īfter they join a client on the server computer, I join from my laptop, and the Minecraft Java Launcher will then display my character name, and I log in with that. They are on the server using the registered player name account, and I use the advice at this link to edit the launcher_profiles_json "displayName" to my character name: My family and I play in our household network, on our own Minecraft Java 1.16.4 server.
